THE MOTORCYCLE OFFERED

From Milwaukee, the good land, comes the great bike, the iconic V-Rod was Harley Davidson's first break from its long-standing tradition of air-cooled V-twins. When introduced, it was the most sporting offering Harley had offered in years and included numerous innovations. Updated over its 16 year's production run, it stands today as one of Harley's most iconic recent models.

No other model showed just how far Harley-Davidson had come from its founding in 1903 than the 100th Anniversary V-Rod. The bike's 1130cc "Revolution" V twin, introduced the year before, developed from the company's AMA Superbike program with a helping hand from Porsche engineering, was the first Harley powerplant to feature liquid cooling and overhead camshafts. It delivered 115hp, far more than any stock; streetable Harley-Davidson had ever produced. With its all-silver livery it is in retrospect a much more futuristic style forward machine then was appreciated at the time. None the less the motoring press loved the new offering from the Milwaukee firm. "Harley didn't just think outside the box, it blew the box away!" said Motorcycle Cruiser magazine at the time of the bike's debut. "The V-Rod certainly doesn't fall anywhere near the various niches Harley has created previously, and it forces us to expand our thinking about what a Harley can be technologically, aesthetically and functionally."

Realizing this bike's significance, the original owner purchased it as a collector's item, always stored it indoors, and it appears as new today as it would have in your local Harley Davidson Dealer in 2003. This example has recorded, a scarcely believable 16 miles (at the time of cataloging) since it rolled off the production line. Offered with its original bill of sale, this V-Rod will become a benchmark example for restorations and preservation, if it has not already. While it hasn't recorded 20 miles the V-rod is in running condition, but items related to age should be addressed should the new owner intend to use the machine.
