THE 1974 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES III
The Series III E-Type of 1971–1975 represented Jaguar's final and most powerful expression of the model that had stopped the 1961 Geneva Motor Show in its tracks. Enlarged to accommodate the 5.3-liter V12 engine — the same unit that had just powered the new XJ12 saloon — the Series III rode on the longer 2+2 wheelbase exclusively, with a wider track, flared wheel arches, a distinctive egg-crate grille, and revised interior. The V12 produced 272 horsepower in European specification and transformed the E-Type's character: where the earlier six-cylinder cars were wiry and demanding, the Series III offered a more effortless, long-legged performance that made it equally at home on a continental motorway as on a winding road. The 1974 cars represent the penultimate production year, retaining details revised on the final 1975 models. With approximately 7,000 Series III roadsters produced across the full run, the open car remains the more sought-after body style — the natural conclusion of Malcolm Sayer's original vision.
THE CAR OFFERED
Its 'U' chassis number prefix indicates that this Automatic transmission Series 3 roadster was manufactured for the United States market. Finished in British Racing Green, with Biscuit leather interior, the car has been the beneficiary of a no expense spared restoration and shows as such. The British Racing Green is as deep and colored as the finest Colombian emerald. Fitted with the optional laced wheels that shine like a faceted diamonds in the sunlight. Additionally, this XKE is fitted with air conditioning to take the edge off of the hot summer days. There is little askew with this Jaguar. Often the V12 Jaguars were misunderstood and often modified out of ignorance of their genius design. This "proper Jag" has not suffered that fate. Its engine bay is very nicely presented with all of its original fixtures in place. A very low mile XKE, it is on the button and eagerly anticipates its next custodian.
