The Honda VFR400R was a scaled-down version of the VFR750R RC30 racer. It had the same V4-type engine with four valves per cylinder, and had originally been developed for the Japanese market, where 400cc had become a limit above which a more involved driving test was required, and most manufacturers tailored their models to this system, producing a sub-400cc model, and also sub-250cc models, reflecting the rules of the roadworthiness-testing system. The VFR400 models had begun in 1986 with the NC21, which was followed by the NC24, and eventually, in 1989 came the NC30. The NC30 versions were able to rev up to 14,500 rpm, although some of the Japanese market examples were restricted in power. The Uk and European versions, such as this example, were not restricted, and thus theoretically capable of 125-130 mph
J841 OVV, a late example of the NC30 model, was purchased by the owner in 2010, and has covered just under 2000 miles in his ownership – presently displaying a total mileage on the odometer of 23,662 miles on consignment, although we cannot verify this from the history file, but expired MoT certificates on file tend to support this. It has not been used since 2014, but the vendor has recently fitted a new battery, and on consignment the machine started readily, and sounded well. However, in the light of the period of none-use, the vendor advises that a new owner should undertake some degree of re-commissioning and basic safety checks prior to taking to the road. Now advancing in years, the owner feels it is time to pass this lovely Honda on to a new owner who can use the bike on a more regular basis.
Documentation comprises a current V5C, an old V5C, a quantity of expired MoTs, a copy workshop manual, copy owner's manual, and sundry papers. Presently on SORN. A spare silencer is included. Please note that both the V5C and the HPI report incorrectly record the engine number prefix as NC30E opposed to NC13E.
Offered with key
