Founded by Polaris Industries of Minnesota - makers of snowmobiles, ATVs, electric vehicles and various off-roaders - the short-lived (1997-2017) Victory Motorcycles was intended to challenge Harley-Davidson's dominance of the North American large-capacity cruiser market. Its first product - the V92C - was announced in 1997, with sales commencing the following year. Victory's motorcycles followed the pattern that had established Harley-Davidson as market leaders, being powered by air-cooled v-twin engines and offered in touring, sports-touring and cruiser variants.
Newly introduced in 2003, the Vegas model employed the later V92C's improved 1,508cc 'Freedom V-Twin' engine and a five-speed gearbox in a new frame before being upgraded for 2006 with a larger, 100ci (1,639cc) engine producing 85bhp and a stump-pulling 106lb/ft of torque. The Vegas 8-Ball came with a distinctive all-black finish, with less chrome than the regular Vegas.
Despite a high-quality model range, Victory struggled to establish market share while failing to match the legacy and brand loyalty enjoyed by Harley-Davidson. Polaris had purchased and revived the charismatic Indian brand in 2011, and the latter swiftly eclipsed Victory in popularity; Polaris began winding down Victory's activities in 2017.
According to the accompanying V5C document, the Victory Vegas 8-Ball offered here was declared new at first registration having been imported and registered under the Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) arrangements for vehicles not homologated for sale in the UK.
Currently displaying a total of 13,812miles on the odometer, the Vegas was purchased by the late owner from Charlies Motorcycles of Bradford in March 2016. No previous history is known. Used sparingly and dry stored for the last few years, the machine was started recently but nevertheless will require recommissioning before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. The Vegas is offered from a private collection of motorcycles which were run regularly up to 2022 when the late owner's ill health prevented any further work or use. All of the machines were purchased from dealers and had been fully serviced prior to joining the collection. None have been ridden since they were confined to storage apart from a short trip to a local show where they were displayed. Accompanying documentation includes the aforementioned V5C Registration Certificate; the 2016 purchase receipt; an expired MoT; and an owner's manual.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
