1999 Ducati 996 'Biposto' (see below)

Although Ducati's water-cooled 8-valve v-twin had been around in its original 851 and 888 incarnations for six years and indeed, had already won three World Superbike (Riders') Championships, it was the arrival of the iconic 916 in 1994 that really captured the public's imagination. Styled by Massimo Tamburini, the 916 and its subsequent evolutions established Ducati as one of the world's foremost brand names. Universally recognised as icons of automotive art, Ducati motorcycles have been exhibited in some of the world's foremost museums, including the Guggenheim in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. The Ducati 916 won the World Superbike Championship in its 1994 debut season and its evolutions three times after that. Enough said. For 1999, the stronger and much improved 996cc engine of the limited-edition 916 SPS was standardised on the new '996' model, while a Ducati Corse works development model took Carl Fogarty to his fourth World Superbike Championship that same year.

Although documents on file refer to this 996 as a 'Biposto', it is presented today in solo configuration, without pillion footrest hangers and footrests, and with a solo seat fitted. Accordingly, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's correctness and specification prior to bidding. Purchased by the late owner in 2016 from ritebike of Bradford, the Ducati has been dry stored since acquisition and used sparingly. No previous history is known. We are advised that a new battery is needed and that the clutch hydraulics will require attention among other recommissioning works and thus it is sold strictly as viewed. The current odometer reading is 27,878 miles. Accompanying paperwork includes the 2016 purchase receipt; a V5C Registration Certificate; sundry invoices; the original warranty booklet; and a Ducati dealer guide.

Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
