This Lot has arrived in the UK from overseas under Temporary Admission. Shippio Ltd must automatically uplift this Lot after the auction, complete all post sale import or export customs administration, and store this Lot until it is customs cleared. A compulsory fee of £350 + VAT will be added to the buyer's invoice for this. This Lot cannot be collected from the auction venue by the purchaser or any alternative transporter.
If the Lot is to stay in the UK or is not exported within 90 days of sale, Import VAT at 5% on the hammer price is payable.
BMW's first 'R80' (nominally 800cc) model was the R80/7, introduced in 1977 as replacement for the 750cc R75/7. Like its predecessor, the R80/7 was powered by BMW's traditional air-cooled flat-twin engine coupled to low-maintenance shaft final drive transmission. Engineered to BMW's customarily high standards, the R80/7 was far from cheap and at £1,999 (in 1978) cost around 40% more than Yamaha's similarly shaft-driven XS750 tourer. "BMW have built their reputation almost solely on the touring virtues of their flat twins, so it was a pleasant reminder when I rode the R80 that a balance of performance and ride properties can produce a versatility based on excellent rather than average capability in every department." - Bike magazine, July 1980.
Johnny and BMW had a close relationship, from 1988 to 1992, Cecotto competed in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) Series. Driving a Schnitzer Motorsport BMW M3, he finished as runner up in the 1990 season but in 1989 Cecotto won the Italian Superturismo, the same year BMW Motorsport built the Johnny Cecotto Limited Edition. Currently displaying a total of 42,101 kilometres on the odometer, this R80/7 was purchased by Johnny several years ago but it has never been started in his ownership. It has been dry stored since acquisition will need recommissioning before returning to the road. Offered with Italian registration document.
