Sold for £2,875 inc. premium

1991 Kawasaki ZXR250C
Registration no. TIW 5448
Frame no. ZX250C-002595
Engine no. ZX250CE009742

Powered by a screaming (15,000rpm) 16-valve liquid-cooled four, the Kawasaki ZXR250 was launched in 1989 together with the ZXR400, which mechanically and cosmetically it closely resembled. Notable features included an aluminium beam frame, adjustable suspension, and a 15-litre fuel tank. Dry weight was 141kg (310lb) and top speed 99mph.

The ZXR250 was aimed at the Japanese market and not officially supplied anywhere else, although limited numbers were made available in Europe and the UK. Between 1989 and 1991 there was also a ZXR250R version, which came with larger carburettors, a remote-reservoir shock absorber and revised gear ratios.

In 1991, the ZXR250 was extensively restyled, receiving new bodywork, headlight, wheels, and Kawasaki's Ram Air System (KRAS), while the engine was revised with a shorter stroke for even higher revs (C and D models). Since 1993, Japanese traffic regulations have limited motorcycles with an engine capacity of 250cc to a maximum power output of 40bhp, and the Kawasaki ZXR250 was detuned accordingly (from 45 horsepower). Out of production from 1996 to 1998, the model was briefly revived for 1999, the final year of production.

Boasting a tachometer red-lined at 19,000 revs (!), this example was first registered in the UK on 1st October 1996 and has had one previous owner in this country. The private vendor acquired the Kawasaki on 19th May 2014. The machine currently displays a total of 5,680 kilometres (3,529 miles) on the odometer, which the private vendor believes is the distance covered from new, although it is not warranted. We are advised that the Kawasaki was running recently but will need a new battery. No previous history is known. The machine is offered with an HPI report and a V5C Registration Certificate.
