This Vintage-era AJS appears to be an older restoration, possibly retaining a degree originality. The history file includes the original buff logbook dated 8th July 1922, describing the machine as a Model B and showing it taxed from January 1925 to January 1927. The first recorded keeper is Henry Ward Fisher of Blackpool while the second is Herbert Wells of St Anne's-on-Sea, who took ownership on 13th October 1967. Also in the file is a 1926 tax disc and the original AJS Guarantee dated 8th July 1922 (date of purchase) issued in the name of H W Fisher Esq, 43 Crystal Road, Blackpool. Chronologically, the next document is an MoT certificate issued on 5th October 1967.
We then jump to a letter dated 23rd August 1983 addressed to the well-known car and motorcycle dealer, Mike Berry. The letter is from 'Ronald' at Northwest Salvage and reads in part: "Thank you for your letter of 3 August 1983. As I promised, I have been in contact with Mr Wells, but at this stage he has only been able to find one paper with a small item in it regarding the AJS. However, I enclose a paper; please pay attention to page 23 where I have marked the relevant pieces. I will be seeing Mr Wells again to enquire whether he has managed to find any more papers." The next document is dated 9th January 1986 and relates to the purchase of the AJS by the current vendor, since when the machine has remained in his collection.
Also included are photocopies of AJS Motorcycles 1927: How to Manage Them and AJS Motorcycles 1926–1927 4.98hp Models Catalogue of Spare Parts. The machine is offered with old/current V5/V5C documents. The engine turns over.
