THE BUICK MODEL 65 SPORT PHAETON

Introduced during one of the most challenging periods in American automotive history, the 1932 Buick Model 65 Sport Phaeton exemplified Buick's commitment to engineering excellence and refined craftsmanship. The Model 65 combined effortless performance with innovative features such as GM's new Synchro-Mesh transmission, Ride Control adjustable shock absorbers, and the Wizard Control vacuum-assisted clutch system. The elegant Sport Phaeton body was among Buick's rarest offerings, with only 79 domestic examples produced.

THE CAR OFFERED

One of the few known surviving Model 65 Sport Phaetons, chassis 2644092 has remained in the same long-term ownership for many decades and underwent a comprehensive restoration, completed in 1997. The car eventually did change hands around 2019 and has been living in sunny California since. Finished in two-tone brown with green pinstriping and matching green spoke wheels, the car retains numerous desirable factory options, including dual side-mounted spares, luggage rack, leather interior and superbly worked wood dash inserts with clock, 90-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and water temperature. Restoration work included a replacement honeycomb radiator, replating the brightwork, new ash top bows, new canvas top, running boards and woodgrain dashboard panels. To improve reliability a spin-on oil filter, auxiliary fuel pump and battery cut-off switch were added and sealed bearings replaced the stock fan tension pulley bushing while the fuel pre-heater was disconnected. A new fuel tank was installed in 2012, the Marvel carburetor was rebuilt in 2014 and new rear brakes fitted in 2017.

This rare and beautifully presented Buick comes with some service records, manuals, brochures and represents an outstanding example of one of the marque's most distinctive and seldom-seen prewar touring automobiles.
