THE CAR OFFERED

Chassis BR22 is among the finest surviving examples of this seminal design and boasts documented history from new. Displayed by the factory at the 1961 Racing Car Show, it was subsequently sold to Alan Ross, the founder of Lola Cars North America, finished in red with twin green stripes—a color scheme it wears once again today.

Ross wasted little time putting the new Lola to work in competition. Entered under the Lola Cars North America banner for the 1961 Sebring 12 Hours, BR22 was shared by Ross and Chuck Hall, brother of future Chaparral creator Jim Hall. Competing against an exceptionally strong international field, the pair ran well but failed to finish with a sister car coming in 13th overall. Nevertheless, the Sebring effort proved instrumental in introducing the model to North American competitors, where its nimble chassis soon became a formidable challenger in SCCA competition.

Following Sebring, BR22 continued to race successfully in SCCA Modified events through 1966 before passing through several knowledgeable enthusiast owners, including noted racing historian and professional driver Joel Finn. In 2004 the car returned to Vintage Racing Motors, where it was carefully restored to its original appearance in red with green stripes before joining respected Australian enthusiast Brent Allan. In 2020 it entered the collection of Ed Nigro, whose competition cars are widely recognized for meticulous preparation and presentation.

Today this Lola remains an exceptionally well-developed historic racer. Its Coventry Climax FWB engine has recently benefited from a comprehensive refresh including new piston rings, bearings, seals, and valve work, while excellent leak-down figures attest to its health. An Accusump automatic oiling system has been installed for additional protection, and power is delivered through a Taylor Race Engineering Sprite gearbox fitted with Hewland straight-cut gears. Adjustable Koni suspension, period-correct finned aluminum drum brakes with new hydraulics, and three TranX limited-slip differentials accompany the car, while a complete set of unused Dunlop vintage-specification racing tires and the original Sebring extended-range fuel tank are included in the sale.

Consistently recording lap times in the 1:44 to 1:45 range at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, BR22 has proven itself to be every bit as competitive as its distinguished history suggests. Equally significant is the comprehensive package accompanying the car. Included is a brand-new 2025 Bravo 22-foot enclosed trailer—sized specifically for the tighter paddock accommodations at premier historic events—along with tools, a 20-foot Easy-Up canopy, and supporting equipment. Rarely does a front-running historic racing car arrive so comprehensively prepared, presenting its next custodian with an opportunity to acquire not simply an important and historic Lola Mk I, but a complete turnkey racing outfit ready for immediate enjoyment at the world's leading vintage motorsport events.
