THE PORSCHE 356 PRE-A CONTINENTAL

Introduced for the 1955 model year, the Porsche 356 Pre-A Continental was conceived specifically for the American market through Porsche importer Max Hoffman. Replacing the earlier 1500 America, the Continental combined the dependable 1,488cc "Normal" engine with a higher level of trim and refinement, creating a sports car equally suited to spirited driving and grand touring.

Produced for little more than a year before Ford objected to the Continental name, just 860 coupes were built. Today, these distinctive bent-windshield models rank among the rarest and most desirable of the early Porsche 356 lineage.

THE CAR OFFERED

Chassis 53164 is a beautiful example, benefiting from a comprehensive, no-expense-spared rotisserie restoration. The car has been returned to its factory specification in the elegant and rarely seen factory combination of Adria Blue over a Red interior. The 1,488cc 'Super' flat-four powerplant has been rebuilt with restored dual Solex carburetors, while the four-speed manual transmission complements the car's lively and engaging character.

Accompanying the Porsche is an impressive portfolio of documentation, including a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, copy of factory Kardex, Reutter Certificate of Production, and a bespoke restoration book chronicling the meticulous restoration with photographs and supporting records. A classic Max Hoffman imported example, even featuring the desirable 'Super' engine with additional horsepower.

Combining exceptional craftsmanship and one of the most desirable specifications of the Pre-A era, this Continental Coupe represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the earliest and most collectible road-going Porsches.
