Unveiled at the 1966 Turin Auto Show, the Maserati Ghibli quickly distinguished itself as a formidable competitor in the Gran Turismo marketplace, standing alongside legends such as the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' and Lamborghini Miura. It was this competitive landscape that drove Maserati to introduce the Ghibli SS. The original Ghibli was equipped with a 4.7-litre V8 engine that produced around 306 horsepower. The Ghibli SS, however, came with a 4.9-litre V8 producing around 335bhp; its top speed of 280km/h (174mph) made it - at the time - the fastest Maserati road car ever produced.

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Carrozzeria Ghia, the Ghibli is celebrated for its striking looks, featuring a long hood, sleek lines and a low, elongated silhouette. This blend of elegance and aggressiveness typifies Italian sports cars of the 1960s and '70s. Beyond its thrilling performance, the Ghibli SS offers a refined level of accommodation for two passengers and their luggage, affording the perfect combination of luxury and speed. With around 425 examples produced, the Ghibli SS coupé is a rare and highly sought-after classic.

This Maserati Ghibli SS, chassis number 'AM115/49 1948', was manufactured on 25th November 1970. Delivered new in Italy, it was finished in elegant Oro Longchamps with a black leather interior, and is equipped with the 4.9-litre SS engine and the ZF five-speed manual transmission.

Acquired in 2004 by its previous (French) owners (members of the Club Maserati France), the Ghibli has been meticulously maintained over the past 20-or-so years. Accompanying documentation on file reveals a history of careful stewardship, including detailed service records from Landrin Sport et Collection in the Ardennes (2006-2016); Pierre Nallet's Garage du Trident in 2009; and Trident, a Maserati specialist in the Vendée in 2017. A 2016 expert appraisal on file confirms the car's outstanding condition, noting its nice paintwork, perfectly aligned bumpers, and original dashboard. There are also technical inspections from 2010, 2012 and 2017, and a French Carte Grise. Additionally, a repaint and major service were completed at the Ateliers des Légendes for €17,000, ensuring that this Ghibli SS not only looks stunning but is also thoroughly prepared and a delightful driving experience. More recently, the retractable headlights were overhauled and the battery replaced, and the car passed a French Contrôle Technique (technical inspection) in September 2024.
