With over 21 million cars built, the humble Beetle lays just claim to being the most important car of all time. The concept famously dates as far back as 1934, but the Beetle's legendary status was truly solidified in the sixties, when the Beetle was at the peak of its popularity thanks to unlikely surging sales in the United States. By the mid 1960s, Volkswagen were producing an astounding 6,800 Beetles every day in a plant that was larger than Wolfsburg's residential area. 1965 saw the first major revision of the Beetle's sheet metal, with the changes including larger windows for better visibility and larger doors. 1967 saw the front and rear ends shortened, with a squarer and more angular bumper used.
This 1973 Volkswagen Beetle 1200, presented in the charming and iconic Bahama Blue, was produced in August 1972 and first registered in Germany in April 1973. It is believed to have had only two owners, with the current owner acquiring it around 1990 and subsequently providing it to his daughter as her first car.
Maintained in the family's professional garage, this Beetle will require recommissioning before use, having been kept on static display in the owner's private collection in recent years. Please note that it is accompanied only by a photocopy of its Fahrzeugbrief (German registration title).
