1958 Norton 497cc Dominator 88
Registration no. CSS 510
Frame no. N122 77642
Engine no. 77642 122 (See text)

CSS 510 was purchased by the present owner's father, from Rod M. Pow's dealership in East Lothian on 7th May 1966 (purchase receipt on file). The machine was transferred to his son in March 1995, and has been used by him on a regular basis ever since. The engine and gearbox had never been dismantled until, in November 2018 the bike was sent to Graham Panter in Wiltshire for a full engine and gearbox strip and rebuild. Handwritten details, and bank transfers, relate that the work cost a total of £4,458, being completed in February 2019. The reading on the speedometer at that time was 11,270.
The reading on the speedometer on consignment was 12,874 miles. We believe that the machine has had more than one speedometer over the years, and we do not know the correct mileage. Whilst some of the parts may have been repainted over the years, the bike still appears in remarkably original condition in many respects, and with the fairly recent mechanical rebuild, should provide a new owner with many years of classic riding to come. CSS 510 has not been used for approximately a year, so will require a modest amount of re-commissioning and basic safety checks prior to use with the new owner. It should be noted that the engine number does not have the expected 'N' year prefix stamped, but is believed correct in every other respect. It is recorded in the V5C with the N. Documentation comprises a current V5C, 2 old-type V5s, a quantity of expired MoT certificates, and a quantity of correspondence, invoices, and sundry papers. Also present are a manual, parts list, and instruction book.
