Sold for £4,025 inc. premium

1971 Norton 750 Commando Fastback
Registration no. KMU 133K
Frame no. 139989
Engine no. 20M39/139989

The Commando's vibration-beating Isolastic frame enabled Norton Villiers to prolong the life of their ageing parallel twin. Launched in 1967, the Commando used the preceding Atlas's 750cc engine and AMC gearbox, and was an instant hit with the motorcycling public, being voted MCN's 'Machine of the Year' for five consecutive years. It might have been a little down on top speed compared to rivals such as BSA-Triumph's 750cc triples and Honda's CB750 four, but the Commando more than made up for this minor deficiency with superior mid-range torque and steadier handling. The original became the 'Fastback', so called because of its streamlined seat cowl, when the range was extended by the addition of a conventionally styled 'S' version in 1969.

The vendor's father ran a Honda dealership and took this Commando in part exchange. On file is an undated old-style V5 in the dealership's name showing the date of first registration as 1st August 1971 and recording the last change of keeper as 1st August 1976. Also on file is a 1978 application for a vehicle licence in the dealership's name. The Commando is not on the DVSA or HPi databases; however, the accompanying documents should enable the registration's recovery. These include MoT's from 1987, 1985, 1979, and 1978; the last records a mileage of 16,483 while the earliest records 15,800 miles. The machine is presented in 'oily rag' condition for recommissioning, careful conservation, or more extensive restoration.
