1987 BMW 980cc R100RS
Registration no. D464 NAF
Frame no. 0160486 R100RS
Engine no. 51/86/0172 10 2V C

Just a few years after introducing the R90/6 and R90S, BMW upped the capacity of its range-topping flat-twins to 980cc for the 1977 season in the form of the R100/7 series, the flagship of this new line-up being the fully-faired R100RS superbike. Although styled like a super-sports machine, the R100RS was more of a sports-tourer, which did it no harm whatsoever in BMW's traditional market sector. "BMWs have always managed to give you a unique and almost uncanny feeling of complete security and stability at speed," observed Bike magazine's Peter Watson. "The ability to maintain cruising speeds of over 100mph for as long as your licence holds out must be one of the machines' most attractive features. The RS even manages to improve on this reputation."
According to our vendor, the following components were renewed by the immediately preceding owner: shock absorber; oil cooler and pipes; brake master cylinder, pipes and pads; rear brake shoes; final drive oil seal; 600W alternator; ignition coils, spark plugs and leads; clutch friction plate; and control cables. In addition, the following components were overhauled: brake calipers; carburettors; and speedometer and volt meter. The main frame, subframes and wheels were powder coated; the fairing resprayed; and a Surefoot side-stand fitted. Last run in September 2025, the machine comes with a V5C document, sundry invoices, and MoT to 2nd September 2026.
