The Robert Lusk Motorcycle Collection
c.1953 Moto Rumi 125cc Special
Registration no. unregistered
Frame no. 4137
Engine no. S6221

Moto Rumi, originally a manufacturer of cast metal components, miniature submarines, and torpedoes during World War II, turned to motorcycles after the conflict under the guidance of Donnino Rumi. By the early 1950s the Bergamo-based company had established a reputation for advanced lightweight two-stroke twins, equally at home on the road or in competition.

The Grand Prix racers of the early-to-mid 1950s marked Rumi's first serious forays into international competition. These factory-style machines typically featured the firm's characteristic horizontal-parallel twin engine in various stages of development, equipped with twin carburettors, racing ignition, and specialist cycle parts.

The machine offered here, dating from circa 1953, has been modified to resemble a Grand Prix machine. Purchased by Robert in 2005 from the Netherlands, it was described at the time as a Moto Giro participant. Features included a twin-spark cylinder, four coils, twin 22mm Dell'Orto racing carburettors, and a Jaeger tachometer, together with a modified fuel tank.
An email on file (copy included) states that the machine began life as a Rumi Sport 125 Monocarburatore and was later updated with various racing components. A copy of a Dutch document was also supplied at the time of sale, although the recorded number does not correspond with the frame number stamped on the machine.

Offered without documents. If purchased by a UK buyer, a NOVA 1 declaration will need to be completed followed by an application for UK registration.

Prospective buyers should please note that whilst Robert actively started and maintained his collection, all machines are offered as requiring recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent.
