Lot 265

The Robert Lusk Motorcycle Collection, Moto Rumi 125cc Argentina

The Robert Lusk Motorcycle Collection
Moto Rumi 125cc Argentina
Registration no. Unregistered
Frame no. 210 (see text)
Engine no. R125 1229

In the final years of production, Rumi developed a modified version of its celebrated 125 Sport for the Argentine export market. The Argentina featured a revised chassis, incorporating Marzocchi front forks and rear shock absorbers in place of the traditional springs, along with redesigned frame mounts tailored to accommodate the engine version.

The bike was in the collection of and restored by Lino Cornago, a former Rumi employee and noted competitor in both road racing and off-road motorcycling in Italy. Cornago, born in the 1930s, enjoyed a distinguished career, including victories at Modena, Aosta, Trieste, Tesero (1956), and success at the Trofeo Orobico (1959). He represented Italy in international off-road competitions, including the 1967 International Six Days Trial in Zakopane, Poland. Cornago later became a respected manager at Fantic Motor and a collector of historic motorcycles.

The frame bears both the original Argentina number (210) and a later frame number applied to the machine so Lino could register it with an existing Italian registration (9611). There are no Argentine or Italian documents with the machine.

Purchased by Robert in late 2007/early 2008 from the Lino Cornago Collection, this Argentina has been carefully stored since. At time of cataloguing, it showed just 7km since restoration. The machine is offered without documents but represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the final export variants of Rumi's legendary 125 Sport, restored by someone intimately familiar with the marque. If purchased by a UK buyer, a NOVA 1 declaration will need to be completed and a UK registration applied for.

Prospective buyers should please note that whilst Robert actively started and maintained his collection, all machines are offered as requiring recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent.
