Introduced in 1977, Honda's CY50 was conceived as a lightweight, practical minibike for leisure use. While Honda's Monkey and Z50 models were already icons of fun transport, the CY50 was aimed at riders seeking something a little more rugged and versatile. In the early 1980s Honda launched the distinctive 'R&P' version – colloquially "Recreation & Picnic" – which was marketed as the ideal companion for outdoor adventures.

The R&P featured a small rear carrier, optional luggage box, and unique camouflage-green paintwork set off by yellow side covers and airbox. Its playful styling was complemented by Honda's typical attention to detail, and the model proved popular in Japan and selected export markets. Today, survivors in original specification are sought after as both charming collectibles and practical classics.

The machine offered here is a well-preserved example from the Robert Lusk Collection. Displaying approximately 174 kilometres on the odometer, it is believed to be unrestored and retains its factory paint, decals and fittings, all of which present very well for its age. The frame and engine numbers match, while the instrument style and sequence indicate a circa 1982 model year, consistent with the R&P specification.

Owned by Robert for many years, certainly prior to 2017, the machine is unregistered and offered without documents.

Prospective buyers should please note that whilst Robert actively started and maintained his collection, all machines are offered as requiring recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price of each Lot purchased and this is subject to VAT. Some lots may also be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price and these lots will be clearly marked with a symbol (†, Ω, *) printed beside the lot number.
For Automobilia the Buyer's Premium is 28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price; 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,001 up to and including £800,000; 21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,001 up to and including £4,500,000 and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,001.
For Motor Cars and Vehicle Registration Numbers the Buyer's Premium will be 15% on the first £500,000 of the hammer price of each Lot, and 12% on the balance thereafter.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% + VAT of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Buyers Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
