1983 Honda XR80
Registration no. not registered
Frame no. JH2HE0107DK402800
Engine no. HE01E-5502439

Honda's long line of successful off-road models commenced in 1972 with the launch of the SL250 trail bike, though the nomenclature soon changed to the more familiar XL250. A that time Honda was Japan's biggest motorcycle manufacturer (it still is, of course) but the smallest producer of off-road models. Honda was soon building the XR range of four-stroke off-roaders in a variety of capacities, including smaller versions intended for schoolboy competition or for use as paddock bikes, commencing with the XR75 in 1973. The latter would be regularly updated throughout the 1970s before being replaced in 1979 by the XR80, which in turn was superseded by the revised XR80R in 1985. The XR80R is famous for its appearance in the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) ridden by a young John Connor, played by Edward Furlong, although somewhat incongruously the sequences are over-dubbed with the sound of a two-stroke engine.

Offered here is a superb example of Honda's bulletproof little XR80 scrambler. The vendor describes the engine as smooth and quiet, running very well with a new carburettor fitted. These machines are increasingly scarce in this condition; great fun for children and teenagers, yet with enough performance to carry adults.
