THE CHEVROLET IMPALA SS CONVERTIBLE

The 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS (Super Sport) Convertible represents the peak of early 1960s full-size performance and luxury. As the top-tier trim level of Chevrolet's best-selling Impala line, the SS combined sleek styling, spirited performance, and upscale appointments in a package that continues to be a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts.

The 1964 Impala featured a cleaner, more squared-off body design compared to earlier models, with crisp lines and a distinctive "jet-smooth" profile. SS models were distinguished by special "Super Sport" badging, engine-turned aluminum trim, and unique exterior moldings. The convertible model featured a power-operated soft top, giving it open-air appeal and enhancing its sporty persona. The rear end was defined by the iconic three round taillights on each side, a Chevrolet hallmark.

Buyers had a range of engines and transmissions to choose from, making the SS both a cruiser and a muscle machine. The base V8 was a 283 cu in (4.6L) small block, while the popular option was a 327 cu in V8 (available with 250, 300, or 340 hp). The top-tier performance engine was the legendary 409 cu in (6.7L) big-block V8, with up to 425 hp with dual 4-barrel carburetors. Available transmissions included a 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual, and Powerglide automatic. The 409-equipped Impala SS became an icon, immortalized in pop culture like The Beach Boys' song "409."

THE CAR OFFERED

This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible was acquired out of a prominent collection in Canada and finished in black over a black interior. Powered by the Turbo-Fire 327 cu in V8 and paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission.
