THE CHEVROLET IMPALA COUPE
The 1961 Impala was part of Chevrolet's third-generation redesign, featuring a sleeker, more modern look compared to its predecessors. The two-door Sport Coupe, or "Bubbletop," was particularly notable for its pillarless hardtop design, offering an uninterrupted roofline that contributed to its distinctive silhouette. The car's clean lines, expansive glass areas, and absence of rear fins gave it a more refined appearance, aligning with the era's design trends.
Chevrolet offered a range of engines for the 1961 Impala, catering to both performance enthusiasts and those seeking everyday reliability. The standard engine was a 283-cubic-inch V8, delivering 170 horsepower while the two performance options were a 348-cubic-inch V8 with outputs ranging from 250 to 335 horsepower and a 409-cubic-inch V8 producing 360 horsepower in its base form.
Transmission options included a three-speed manual, a four-speed manual (available with the Super Sport package), and Chevrolet's Powerglide automatic.
The 1961 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe remains a celebrated model among classic car enthusiasts. Its combination of stylish design, performance capabilities, and the introduction of the SS package laid the groundwork for future muscle cars. Today, well-preserved or restored examples, especially those equipped with the 409 V8 and four-speed manual transmission, are highly sought after in the collector car market.
THE CAR OFFERED
Acquired out a prominent collection in Canada, this 1961 Chevrolet Impala Coupe was originally painted Ermine White, but having received a restoration years ago, it was re-finished in Black. Equipped with the 409-cubic-inch V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission, this was the most desirable Impala configuration before the Impala SS.
