THE DODGE CHALLENGER HELLCAT

Following the demise of the original in 1974, and a brief foray as a rebadged Mitsubishi in the '80s, the Challenger badge finally reappeared in 2008 after a long hiatus. Mopar fans rejoiced at the news that it was attached to a proper 2-door, rear drive hardtop with an optional V8 engine. Finally, Dodge owners had a car to compete with the Mustang and Camaro. Much like the 1970 original, a wide range of engines and options were offered, and when the engineers from Chrysler's in-house skunkworks SRT got a hold of it, it rose to be a formidable muscle car, with subsequent versions pushing the envelope of what a showroom-delivered street car could do.

Following an enormously successful 2015 facelift led by consummate car guy and SRT boss/Design Director Ralph Gilles, the Challenger was revamped to accept myriad new versions of the Hemi V8, up to and including the mighty 717bhp supercharged 'Hellcat.' Now, the Challenger was in a class of its own.

THE CAR OFFERED

For those who found the standard Hellcat's 717bhp a bit light, Dodge introduced the Hellcat Redeye. With 797-supercharged-whine-producing ponies, the Redeye was the extra jolt of insane Mopar fans wanted. Finished in Smoke Show Grey over Black leather and alcantara seats, this car was ordered with the Hellcat Redeye Widebody package, 27Q, a $17,600 option. With thousands in additional options – most offering a greater degree of luxury in the cabin, the total MSRP came to $93,020.

Sold new in Levittown, New York, this Hellcat Redeye would soon make its way to the Midwest, where it has resided for the last three and a half years. Showing well with under 6,500 original miles, it should be noted that the CARFAX report records a minor front damage report in July of 2022.

Ready to burn rubber anew with its next owner, this sly looking cat is sure to excite.
