The Plymouth Hemi Roadrunner

The 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner was designed to bring high-performance driving to the everyday buyer. Built on the principle of "no frills, just speed," it delivered exactly what muscle car enthusiasts wanted: big horsepower at an affordable price. At the top of the lineup was the formidable 426 Hemi V8, a street version of Chrysler's race-proven engine, making a factory-rated 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque.

With its unmistakable cartoon-inspired badging, "Beep Beep" horn, and available Air Grabber hood scoop, the Road Runner didn't take itself too seriously—but under the hood, it was all business. The HEMI-powered variant could run the 1/4 mile in the low 13-second range, easily outpacing more expensive rivals.

The 1969 model year saw minor styling updates, including a new grille and taillight design, while still staying true to the Road Runner's stripped-down formula. Most interiors were basic, with bench seats and minimal trim, keeping weight and costs low. Buyers could opt for a hardtop, coupe, or convertible body style, though the vast majority were coupes.

Production of HEMI Road Runners was limited, making them highly collectible today. Fewer than 800 units were built with the HEMI engine in 1969, and far fewer survive with their original drivetrains intact.

THE CAR OFFERED

A true icon of the muscle car era, this 1969 Plymouth HEMI Roadrunner represents the pinnacle of Mopar performance with the comfort and rarity that place it among the most desirable muscle cars of its era. Built at the St. Louis plant and restored to its original glory, the car presents exceptionally well. Based upon documentation on file, the odometer reading of 17,241 at cataloging looks to be actual.

Finished in its correct Black Velvet (X9) exterior and equipped with the formidable 426 cid High-Performance HEMI V8 (E74), this Road Runner is 1 of only 234 4-speed HEMI Roadrunners built to U.S. specifications in 1969—a true rarity in the Mopar world.

Mated to a correct A833 4-Speed Manual Transmission (D21) with Hurst Floor Shift Linkage and backed by the Track Pak 3.54 Sure Grip Rear Axle (D56), this Roadrunner delivers the raw, unfiltered performance that defined a generation. Power front disc brakes, power steering, and factory air conditioning—an incredibly rare option on a HEMI car—make this Roadrunner both thrilling to drive and comfortable on the road.

Inside, you'll find Medium Grade Black Vinyl Bucket Seats (M6X) with a floor console and center armrest, all presented in factory-correct detail. The original broadcast sheet confirms the authenticity of this Road Runner's impressive list of factory-installed options, including the AM radio and all performance and comfort features.
