1973 Studebaker Avanti II

1973 Studebaker Avanti II
Chassis no. RQB1903

● A rare model on European roads
● Over €12,000 worth of invoices from the last 8 years
● Fitted with a high-performance V8 Chevrolet 400CI

Commissioned by Studebaker management in the waning days of the company, famed industrial designer Raymond Loewy was encouraged to create a singularly bold and futuristic car to serve as not only a financial boon, but also the firm's new technical/performance halo model. Designed in only 8 weeks, the Avanti was hurried into production with a host of forward looking safety and performance features including factory supercharged versions of the venerable 289ci V8 with a 4 barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, an integrated roll bar and a revolutionary 'Coke Bottle' body with front fenders, profiling distinctive blades extending well forward of the nose and rear fenders with a pronounced sweep, and the wheel wells are shaped with unique parabolic designed that comfortably seated four. Driven by luminaries including Ian Fleming (of James Bond fame), Frank Sinatra and Rod Serling to name only a few, the Avanti is as striking today as it was in 1963.
This model was delivered new in the United States in 1973. Fitted with the Corvette V8 Small Block 400ci engine and an automatic gearbox, it arrived in France in the mid-2010s and changed hands in 2021, before being acquired by its current owner in 2023. Since its arrival in France, substantial work has been completed to improve both its appearance and operating condition. In total, over €12,000 has been spent in the last few years, including a recent full overhaul of the braking system, various engine and transmission seals, a new ignition system and assorted chrome trims and carpeting. Having been very little used recently, a service should be undertaken before using it for long trips.
At once unusual and iconic, the Studebaker Avanti is a means of gaining access to American classic cars while standing out from the crowd.
Please note that the chassis number on the title is RQB1903 and on the vehicle identification sticker located in the door entrance states RQBL903
