Porsche revived the evocative Carrera name for all 911 variants from the start of the 1984 model year, co-incidentally with the introduction of the 3.2-litre engine. Although it remained an air-cooled 'flat six', the '3.2' motor was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial shortcoming. An ECU controlled the fuel and ignition systems for the first time on a 911, enabling the engine to be both more powerful and less thirsty. As a result, this enlarged and extensively revised power plant now produced 231bhp, 27 horsepower up on its predecessor, endowing the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974. Thirty years on, Carrera 3.2s are now highly sought after and for very good reason, though finding one is not that easy.

This Carrera 3.2 was ordered new to her personal specification by our lady vendor, and has belonged to her ever since. Interested parties should note that the UK V5C shows 5 registered keepers, however this is a one owner car. The vendor was the owner of the famous Odette Gilbert Gallery in Mayfair's Cork Street, and the Porsche was always parked in a garage opposite. The Odette Gilbert Gallery showcased the works of long-established and highly sought-after artists such as Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, Edward Wolfe, Jacob Epstein, Lucian Freud and Picasso, while at the same time encouraging up-and-coming younger artists. It closed in 1995.

In 2021 our vendor despatched the Porsche to marque specialists Chelsea Carrera for a complete restoration and an interior re-trim by Dave The Trimmer Ltd. Finished in white with burgundy interior, the car is described by the vendor as in excellent condition throughout and offered with current MoT and a V5C Registration Certificate.
