This imposing example of Rolls-Royce's 'Best Car in the World' was ordered new by Alexander P Moore of the Phosphor Bronze Co in Madrid, Spain. '28 LK' was originally delivered to coachbuilders Barker & Co on 22nd March 1923 but was finished at Windovers on 1st June 1923, complete with polished bonnet, and despatched via Dover-Calais. Windovers' body also features twin spare wheels and nickel-plated brightwork throughout. Factory records show that the Ghost was returned to England in February 1925 and purchased by a Mr J Max Bonn of Brook Street, London W1, who kept the car for three years before selling it to a Walter Kent of Stanmore, Middlesex. Little more is known of its early history.

In 1997 the Rolls-Royce was offered for sale at a UK auction, described as 'requiring some restoration work following a long period in storage'. Our vendor, a retired engineer, purchased the car in 1998 in the UK and subsequently embarked on a mechanical restoration. The rebuild was entrusted to the well-respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist Werner Mork in Kamen, Germany, while the overhaul of the pistons and crankshaft was outsourced to engine specialists Haarnagel Motoren GmbH in Dortmund. The engine was completely dismantled down to the last screw, and after the overhaul it was reassembled by the owner. At the same time the electrics were renewed by a specialist; all the wheel bearings overhauled; the brakes rebuilt; and a new exhaust system fitted, again by Werner Mork. To avoid oil stains on the ground, some small brass receptacles were fitted, and the owner also manufactured and fitted wooden trays for the original tools, which ingeniously are housed in two drawers beneath the rear seat. After the restoration's completion the Rolls-Royce received its TüV approval and was driven to the vendor's home. Since then he has used the car regularly and always maintained it meticulously. Importantly, since 1998 the Ghost has never been off the road, always passing the stringent German TüV every two years. The vendor is only selling the car because of his advancing years.

Generously, the vendor will donate the proceeds to two charities close to his heart: one is the 'Heinz Sielmann Stiftung', a charity devoted to the protection of natural habitats and the promotion of biodiversity in Germany, which was founded in 1994 by the well-known German wildlife photographer, zoologist and documentary film-maker Heinz Sielmann and his wife Inge. The other charity is the 'DGzRS', the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, which is responsible for maritime search and rescue operations in the German waters of the North Sea and Baltic sea. The car is offered with German historic registration documents; copies of factory records; and numerous technical details and literature.
