1967 Volkswagen Type 2 Split-Screen Kombi

1967 Volkswagen Type 2 Split-Screen Kombi
Chassis no. 287067711
Engine no. AS0205455

• Desirable early split-screen model
• 7 seats and unobtainable green tinted windows
• Restored condition
• Registered in the UK since December 2004 with EU taxes paid and French registration document in progress

As readily recognisable as the immortal 'Beetle' itself, the Volkswagen Type 2 (the Beetle saloon being Type 1) was conceived in the late 1940s by Dutch Volkswagen agent, Ben Pon, who drew up plans for a van based on the Beetle floor pan and running gear. The result arrived in 1950 and would proliferate into a bewildering variety of models catering for an enormous range of commercial and domestic activities.
This outstandingly successful design's first major revision occurred in 1968, by which time almost two million had been sold. The most obvious difference was the new Type 2's single-piece wraparound windscreen, giving this model its 'Bay' sobriquet, whereupon the original, with its two-piece split screen, became known to devotees as the 'Splittie'.

A desirable 'split-screen' model, this beautiful 11-window version of Volkswagen's ever-popular Kombi has been registered in the UK since December 2004 and in France since May 2023. The Kombi has been restored, but unfortunately neither our vendor nor the previous owner knows when, although it is presumed to be prior to 2010. The vehicle displays a total of 95,909 miles on the five-digit odometer (14,876 covered since 2010) and is described as in exceptional mechanical condition. All MoT certificates from 2014 to 2022 are on file (most recent expired 26th September 2023). The vehicle also comes with its UK V5C registration certificate and customs documents, and we are advised that the FFVE certification is in progress to obtain a French title for historic vehicle. It should be noted that the chassis number is incorrectly recorded as 'Z87067711' and not "287067711" on the V5C.

Footnotes

1967 Volkswagen Combi Type 2 « split-screen »
Châssis n° 287067711
Moteur n° AS 205 455
