The 412i was the final glorious flowering of Ferrari's series of luxurious four-seaters that had commenced with the introduction of the 365 GT/4 2+2. Launched in 1972, the latter reaffirmed Maranello's determination to compete with the world's finest luxury sports saloons and attract the type of mature yet discerning customer who previously might have opted for a Bentley or Mercedes-Benz. Representing evolution rather than revolution, the 412i debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985. The newcomer retained its 400i predecessor's quad-cam V12 engine (now increased to 4,944cc) and came with anti-lock brakes, a revised interior and bumpers colour co-ordinated with the bodywork. An improved front air dam and raised boot deck reduced the already exemplary co-efficient of drag by around ten percent. By the time production ceased in 1989, Ferrari's finest 2+2 had been in production for a remarkable 17 years, though its exclusivity meant that there were seldom more than 200 sold in any one year.

Finished in Blu Pozzi with dark blue leather interior, this elegant 412i was delivered new via the legendary Ferrari importer Auto Becker in Düsseldorf to its first owner, Roswitha von Bergmann. Mrs von Bergmann was an interesting character: a member of the German FDP (the German Liberal Democrats), she served as a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia parliament from 1962 to 1970, and was well known for her art collection as well as being a Ferrari connoisseur – she even featured in the German TV documentary Ferraristi in 1986 with her 400.

Mrs von Bergmann kept the 412i until 1997, and copies of Auto Becker's invoices attest to the meticulous servicing schedule she followed. She also had a catalytic converter installed. In 1997 Mrs von Bergmann sold the Ferrari to a resident of Frankfurt. Once again it was regularly serviced, first at Auto Becker and then at Lenz Motorentechnik in Kirchseeon, Bavaria. In 2007 the Ferrari was sold to its third registered owner, a resident of the German capital, Berlin. He also had the car regularly serviced, this time at Oldietech GmbH in Berlin. Our vendor, the next owner, never registered the Ferrari in its name, thus making it a three-registered-owners-from-new example. While in the vendor's care the 412i has been serviced in-house and presents beautifully, its engine running smoothly.

The car is offered with German registration documents; a large folder of service history invoices; an original Ferrari 412i manual in its original leather pouch; and an instruction manual for the Blaupunkt Coburg radio/cassette.

A most elegant Gran Turismo Ferrari in arguably one of the best colour combinations available, with the added advantage of having been very well looked after from new. A must for the Ferrari connoisseur.
