The 'TT Formula' race series was devised by the A-CU to keep the Isle of Man TT in the forefront of international racing after its loss of World Championship status in 1977. There were three classes: TT F1, TT F2, and TT F3, all for production-based machinery. From the IoM TT being the series' only event, the championship progressed until by 1990 it was run over five rounds, though by this time the F2 and F3 categories had been dropped. Ducati was quick to see the series' potential as a showcase for its products, with Tony Rutter winning the F2 class for the Italian manufacturer four years on the trot (1981-1984). Today, replica Ducati TT frame and bodywork kits are readily available.
This Ducati racer was built by marque specialists JB Racing, starting with a new replica frame and the fuel-injected engine and other components from a 900 SS inezione, a model first introduced for 1998. The machine was built from the donor bike in 2022, with all component parts either new or refurbished, and last ran earlier this year. It is intended for Classic parading or racing. The engine and transmission have been checked over and a new race wiring harness fitted. Other specification highlights include the following:
New cam belts
Valve clearances adjusted
K&N air filters
High-pressure fuel pump
Aluminium fuel tank
Braided brake and clutch hoses
YSS rear shock (new)
New chain and sprockets
New clip-on handlebars
