The 'TT Formula' race series was devised by the A-CU to keep the Isle of Man TT in the forefront of international racing after its loss of World Championship status in 1977. There were three classes: TT F1, TT F2, and TT F3, all for production-based machinery. Ducati was quick to see the series' potential as a showcase for its products, with Tony Rutter winning the F2 class for the Italian manufacturer four years on the trot (1981-1984). Today, replica Ducati TT frame and bodywork kits are readily available.
This Ducati racer was built by marque specialists JB Racing, starting with a new replica TT2 frame and the fuel-injected engine and other components from an undamaged 900 SS inezione, a model first introduced for 1998. The machine was built from the donor bike in 2022, the engine and transmission being fully overhauled and all components either renewed or refurbished as required, and last ran earlier this year. It is intended for Classic parading or racing. Only 30 miles have been covered since the engine rebuild. Other specification highlights include the following:
Engine components vapour blasted and ultrasonically cleaned
U/D forks
New top-specification Matris rear shock
Race-pattern rear-sets
Aluminium fuel tank
New wiring harness
New tachometer
Lithium battery and charging lead
Fully TT1 fairing and seat unit, all repainted
New Brembo brake and clutch cylinders as required
