• Unique specification
• Built in 2014
• Extensively paraded at Classic events
The unique machine offered here resulted from Neil Brailsford's aim to build a Japanese café racer in 1960s style. Items such as lights, switches, etc are standard Kawasaki, chosen to be in keeping with the desired style. The Z440 was purchased as three boxes of bits from an online auction site in May 2013. All unwanted lugs have been removed and the frame powder coated. The engine top end was rebuilt but the bottom end is original; engine covers have been polished and damaged screw threads repaired. The spoked wheels were rebuilt with new alloy rims and new tyres; all bearings, seals, etc were replaced and new brake shoes fitted. Many components were designed and hand made in stainless steel:
• Dummy oil tank (houses the battery and rectifier)
• 'Café Racer' exhaust mounting brackets
• Z440 side panels
• Swept-back exhaust pipes
• Wheel spacers
The seat is moulded to look like the 1960s Japanese racers and the fuel tank is moulded in the style of a Lyta short circuit race tank. All mounting bolts, nuts, etc are stainless steel. The wiring harness has been refurbished and LED lights fitted. Since completion the Kawasaki has been used extensively for parading at CRMC events in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and subsequently. Neil's son Martin has paraded the machine at various venues including Donington Park, Cadwell Park, Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Mallory Park, Castle Combe, Silverstone and Darley Moor. The 'Café Racer' Kawasaki has also been a concours award winner at Ardingly and Poole in 2014.
Accompanying documentation consists of a current V5C; CRMC Registration Certificate; and a quantity of MoTs (most recent expired in March 2022). A fly-screen and side numberplates ('15') are included in the sale.
