This fabulous example of a 1965 Mustang race car was commissioned and built in 2017 by Alan Mann Racing as a faithful replica of 'DPK 6B', one of the three famous Mustangs commissioned by Ford and campaigned by Alan Mann Racing in the early 1960s. The sole surviving Alan Mann Mustang, 'DPK 5B', won the Tour Auto, and subsequently Roy Pierpoint used 'DPK 6B' to win the 1965 British Touring Car championship. Unfortunately, the original 'DPK 6B' was subsequently destroyed in an accident at Silverstone in the 1970s, so this car is an evocation of Pierpoint's Mustang.

Henry Mann took on the challenge to build this replica of 'DPK 6B' and found a superb rust-free Californian bodyshell. According to Henry, this was the best Mustang 'shell that he has ever found to build a race car. The car was stripped and completely rebuilt to a very high standard with a fully legal Mathwall 430bhp engine, while incorporating all the Alan Mann modifications to make this car highly competitive. The interior is very original and incorporates original fitments such as a Halda rally clock.

This Mustang was invited to compete at Goodwood in the 78th Members Meeting where it was driven by Dario Franchitti, performing very well until it was unfortunately black-flagged due to a loose exhaust.

This superb example of an FIA-specification Mustang has never been damaged and is ready to race. It has top quality equipment and the pedigree of having been built and maintained by Alan Mann Racing, incorporating all their latest tweaks. The car also comes with a full set of steel wheels, the same as those that it would have been raced with in period. The exhaust system was fabricated by Xero exhausts and the car comes with open Goodwood tail pipes and a silenced less than 105db system.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price of each Lot purchased and this is subject to VAT. Some lots may also be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price and these lots will be clearly marked with a symbol (†, Ω, *) printed beside the lot number.
For Automobilia the Buyer's Premium is 28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price; 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,001 up to and including £800,000; 21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,001 up to and including £4,500,000 and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,001.
For Motor Cars and Vehicle Registration Numbers the Buyer's Premium will be 15% on the first £500,000 of the hammer price of each Lot, and 12% on the balance thereafter.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% + VAT of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Buyers Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
