One Woman and Her Dog by Hawkes Architecture

One Woman and Her Dog by Hawkes Architecture

During lockdown - like so many families - Hawkes Architecture acquired a new puppy. A year on, the bundle of cockapoo loveliness – Star - is well and truly one of the family. She is hugely loved and indulged, and all plans for her to sleep in a crate have been forgotten as she makes her bed in any of the family bedrooms, the owners of which couldn't imagine life without Star.

The first insight the Hawkes wrestled with in creating this visionary kennel was a dog's disregard for design. Rather than indulging the human response, they focused on delivering what the dog would most crave: proximity to its family. The rest of their process rested on the sustainable use of waste, redeploying materials in fun, practical and creative ways. The resulting structure – a recyclable survival vessel for two – can take a dog and its beloved master across any terrain, providing shelter and clean water to enjoy together.
