Campaigned as a sprint outfit for many years, this lovely 1930s Rudge was purchased by the current vendor from the estate of the late Mick Rogers some five-or-so years ago. Frame number '55909' dates from November 1935, which makes this machine a 1936 model. The engine has an Ulster 'semi-radial' cylinder head, while the number 'U1557' dates from December 1935 (the 'MJR' suffix is believed to be Mick Rogers' initials).
Various tags and ACU scrutineers' stickers on the machine would indicate that it has been entered in various events in the past including the Dutch TT and Festival of 1000 Bikes. A 1996 Wroughton VMCC winner's trophy in the quarter-mile sprint class is included in the sale together with a black-and-white photograph of the Rudge competing in a sprint at some time during the 1970s with Mick Rogers at the controls and his daughter as passenger on the sidecar. Other than that the Rudge's history is not known. Last run in January 2022, this is an interesting machine that would reward further research into its history.
