1930 Austin Seven 'Chummy' Registration no. TR8 392 Chassis no. 106809
The Austin Seven was a revolutionary car not just for the British automotive market but also for the company itself. Produced between 1922 and 1939, the Seven was Austin's first small car and it sold in record numbers. The car was a saviour for Austin and it saved the company from financial ruin, but its success was completely justified by its quality and affordability. Once production had wound up in 1939 over 290,000 had been sold, completely changing British car market and outselling many of its competitors.
This 1930 Chummy, appropriately nicknamed 'Bluebell', is presented in a beautiful blue colour scheme that contrasts well with its black leather interior. Restored over a 13-year period, the car is overall in a very good condition inside and out. 80% of the aluminium body is original, the metal floor has been replaced, and the engine has also been completely stripped and rebuilt (and is said to be running and driving well). There is also an extensive history file which features multiple old MOTs and bills dating back to 1975. A lovely example.
