During the 1950s and 1960s Mercedes-Benz' smaller-engined cars, like their more expensive siblings, developed a reputation for long-lived reliability which few other car manufacturers could ever match. Offered here is a very original example that has spent much of its time in Nice, France, although it was registered in Paris. Intriguingly it is right-hand drive, the answer to that being many Parisian drivers thought it safer to disembark on the pavement side. The bodywork is in good order as is the paintwork which was re finished recently. In good serviceable condition throughout, alleviating the fears often felt by owners of concours cars! The interior has survived especially well, with the cream seat facings very tidy and free of neglect. Door cards too have survived very well while the dashboard which has been refurbished has no fading or cracking and a new carpet has been fitted with the floorpan thoroughly cleaned and new underlay installed. Recent work reveals just how much attention has been paid to this 220, which has been fitted with new spark plugs, battery, exhaust system, fuel pump, distributor cap and gearshift bushes, the carburettors refurbished and a new windscreen rubber, as well as new whitewall tyres. Close attention to detail is revealed with the interior mirror being rebuilt with new glass and dipping mechanism. In all a delightful offering, particularly as being a smaller-engined model which brings less complexity than its bigger-engined siblings..
