THE MONTEREY SPECIAL CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE

The 1953 model year would be FoMoCo's last year for their flathead V8. The Monterey was introduced in 1952. Finding instant success among the mid-range market. Competing against other mid-level offerings from Packard, GM and Chrysler Corporation. The Special Custom Convertible was the range topper for Mercury's Monterey line for 1953. Standard was a Power Top, power windows, amber driving lights and two-tone interior. 8,463 Mercury Monterey Convertibles were built for 1953.

THE CAR OFFERED

This 1953 Special Custom Convertible has seemingly always led a well-cared for life. Never seemingly having been derelict, this Monterey wears a stunning shade of coral, over a two-tone interior with a tan top. A previous owner has made some tasteful modifications to the Ford/Mercury V8 under the hood. The "Flatty" sports Edelbrock aluminum heads, an Edelbrock intake with Holley Performer Carb, Reds stainless headers and a Mallory Distributor. The car is Also fitted with a column shift manual, so the Ford-o-Matic ('slush-o-matic') doesn't get in the way of the added power. Certain parts have also been chromed lending to a very well-presented engine bay. While the car is running at the time of cataloging, it has been subject to some static display, and a thorough once-over inspection should be performed prior to extended use.

For the Greenwich Auction, Bonhams is working in conjunction with SST Motorcars LLC, CT Vehicle Dealer N2752. For all registrable vehicles, please note buyers will not receive the vehicle title at the time of the auction. Bonhams manages the title transfer process on behalf of the buyer to ensure the car is free of liens and encumbrances. Buyers can expect the vehicle's title to be couriered within 30 business days post-sale, at which time the buyer can register the car at its destination. Titles announced as "in transit" will take additional time to be processed. All titles and any registrable documents will be shipped via FedEx from Bonhams' offices.
All historical documents and accompanying items will ship either with the vehicles or from Bonhams' offices.
