THE CHRYSLER SERIES 66
The 1930 Chrysler 66 was named for its impressive top speed of 66 mph, which was significant amongst its contemporaries. Designed to provide a balance of speed, comfort, and style, it represented Chrysler's commitment to quality and performance during the challenging economic times of the Great Depression.
Initially powered by a 195.6 cubic-inch inline-6 engine producing 65 horsepower, The Chrysler 66 later received a larger 218.6 cubic-inch six with 68 horsepower at 3,000 RPM, backed by a three-speed manual transmission with floor shift controls. All models featured Lockheed four-wheel hydraulic brakes.
The 1930 Chrysler lineup placed the Series 66 on a 112.75-inch wheelbase, slotting it between the economy CJ-6 (109-inch) and the more upscale Series 70 (116.5-inch). When new, prices on the Series 66 ranged from $995 to $1,075.
The bodies were slightly revised from the 1929 Series 65 — notably featuring bowl-shaped headlights in place of the heavier barrel style, with revised fenders as well. The 66 was offered in a range of body styles: Brougham Sedan, Business Coupe, Coupe, Phaeton, Royal Sedan, Royale Coupe, and Rumble Seat Roadster, riding on 18 x 5.50 tires with wooden spoke wheels.
The 66 two-person coupe is one of only 1,600 built across 1929 and 1930. Very few of these cars exist today. In total, 22,606 Series 66 vehicles were produced across the model run. The 66 was replaced in 1931 by the revised Chrysler Series CM.
THE CAR OFFERED
Finished in two-tone Maroon and Black lacquer paint, this older restoration was part of a museum collection and features many original components that adorn the two-door steel body, including the light assemblies, running boards, wooden spoke wheels and folding four-piece hood.
The interior features a black vinyl bench while the original steering wheel and foot and hand controls sit within the cockpit that is adorned with a headliner and interior trim that are finished in red cloth.
The original engine features a new carburetor, and the engine was briefly run in April of 2026. It shows the VIN AB151 7968 on the left side of the block and is connected to a three-speed transmission that shifts properly.
The brakes are not functional, and the electrical system was bypassed under previous ownership. A comprehensive mechanical and electrical system refurbishment is suggested prior to driving this attractive and uncommon 1930 Chrysler 66.
