North America's wide-open spaces are the perfect playground for off-road motorcycles, and the importance of this leisure-orientated sector has long been recognised by European and Japanese manufacturers. Yamaha began contesting this market in the 1960s, offering a range of two-stroke single-cylinder trail bikes and purpose-built moto-crossers as well as twin-cylinder 'street scramblers'. Powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine, the trail-styled DT50 enduro was one of Yamaha's most successful smaller models of this type during the early 1980s.
This DT50 currently displays a total of 25,240 miles on the odometer and is offered for restoration. Our vendor advises us that a 65cc kit has been fitted (see receipt from Roy Smith Motors dated 1993 on file) and it should be noted that the non-matching engine is that of an RD50 MX of the same (early 1980s) period. Additional documentation consists of an old-style V5 (showing eight keepers to 1989); and a 1992 purchase receipt from Mark Kerkham (motor engineer, last recorded keeper). HPI clear, the machine also comes with a small quantity of spares including a silencer, side panels, and cylinder barrel. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves regarding this motorcycle's condition, completeness, and authenticity prior to bidding.
