Lot 523

2000 BMW R1100RT

2000 BMW R1100RT
Registration no. W843 OCC
Frame no. WB10413AXYZD26300
Engine no. illegible due to corrosion

Introduced for 1996, the R1100RT was the tourer model in a range that also included the R1100R, R1100GS and R1100RS, all of which used basically the same engine but in different states of tune, as well as different bodywork and chassis details. Enlarged from its R100RT predecessor's 971cc to 1,085cc, the R1100RT's engine was significantly more powerful, putting out 90bhp to the R100RT's 60 horsepower. Somewhat unusually, the fuel-injected eight-valve engine retained air-cooled cylinders but had oil-cooled heads, the latter's valves operated via short pushrods by chain-driven camshafts. On the chassis side, the R1100RT used the engine as a stressed member and featured BMW's well-established Telelever front suspension, a Paralever single-sided swinging arm and, of course, shaft final drive. Other noteworthy features of this peerless mile-muncher included ABS, a five-speed gearbox, twin four-pot front brake calipers, a 25.2-litre (5.5-gallon) fuel tank, and a generously sized touring fairing.

Currently displaying a total of 77,659 miles on the odometer, the BMW had been used by the vendor for trips abroad to Europe but has been stored for some time. Recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent will be required before returning the machine to the road and thus it is sold strictly as viewed. Offered with a V5C document, quantity of invoices, expired MoT's (most recent in 2021), Riders manual, service and technical booklet.
