THE CAR OFFERED

This 1919 Oldsmobile Model 37-A Roadster was acquired for the Minden Automotive Museum in 1968 from Arvin Martensen's Antique Auto House in Loveland, Colorado in part exchange for a 1939 Packard. It was described at the time as running well and showing "some wear but is very presentable", and that is how it appears today.

Finished in an attractive shade of maroon with black fenders and aprons. The interior is upholstered and trimmed in black leather, matched by a black cloth top. Correspondence from Arvin Martensen in 1968 mentions that he thought the front seat upholstery was original and that still seems to be the case. It has Monogram headlights, a Westclox dashboard clock, rear-mounted spare, varnished wood spoke wheels with 32x4 Firestone tires, wind wings and a Moto Meter on a winged radiator cap. The top has two oval rear windows that overlook an unusual rumble seat in the nearly flat body rear deck.

It is titled by its engine number but bears a clear car number AR309 on the firewall plate. That number includes a R which , in Oldsmobile practice, confirms it was originally bodied as a roadster. The paint is old but sound with minor cracks and chips. The upholstery is likewise sound but now dry and cracking. The upholstery in the rumble seat appears to be newer. The engine compartment and chassis have seen some repainting in the past but are largely original and neglected.

The body design is attractive and highlighted by a good looking and nicely proportioned arch shaped radiator shell. In 1919 Oldsmobile built 21,968 Model 37-As. Very few survive and even fewer are as appealing as this roadster
