THE CAR OFFERED

The Dodge offered here is itself a milestone. It was acquired by Harrah's in 1958 from Bert Spear in Phoenix, Arizona. Ed Spear Dodge was a Dodge agency started in 1914 in Arizona and this car was the "First Dodge delivered in Arizona" according to Bert Spear. Its serial number, 306, puts it near the end of Brigham's scant 370 numbers issued in 1914.

Spear stated in 1958 that "The car hasn't a dent or scratch on it in any way." It was described at the time as refinished in 1954 with new black enamel paint, a new top and new upholstery and as all original including its 12-volt starting, lighting, generator and starter. After acquisition from Spear, it was restored in the Harrah's shop and completed in 1969 to Harrah's highest, Gold Star, standards. The only noted departure from stock is the upholstery which is black leatherette where it originally had leather.

Finished in black with black upholstery and a black cloth top, it has blue wood artillery wheels with Stanweld split rims holding 32x3 ½ tires. It has a single rear-mounted spare, Jones speedometer, Stewart updraft carburetor and complete weather equipment including side curtains.

Still impressive with sound paint, a few edge chips and scrapes, the upholstery and top are sound, and the engine compartment is orderly with expected evidence of age. This is a solid Dodge, restored and preserved the way the Dodge brothers built them. It has a documented and notable history and will be welcome in multiple venues once recommissioned. A restoration is not necessary and would not enhance its history or patina.
