Although Edward Turner's Triumph Speed Twin caused a sensation when it appeared at the 1937 Motorcycle Show, few of its admirers can have guessed how influential the design would prove to be. Performance was exemplary for a road-going 500, around 85mph being attainable by the Speed Twin while the Tiger 100 sports version was even faster. The latter's performance was boosted by the use of high-compression forged pistons and polished ports and internals, the result being a machine that could touch 100mph in road trim and exceed it with the silencer end-caps removed. When production resumed in 1946, the T100 reappeared with telescopic forks in place of the original girders, and separate dynamo and magneto instead of the pre-war version's magdyno. Along with the rest of the twins, the Tiger could also be ordered with the optional 'sprung hub' that conveyed a measure of rear suspension.

Currently displaying a total of 52,973 miles on the odometer, this matching-numbers 'sprung hub' T100 is an older restoration that will require recommissioning and would benefit from detailed cleaning (the engine turns over). The history file contains a continuation logbook issued 1961 recording the date of first registration as 5th January 1952. The logbook lists four owners, all located in the Leicestershire area, and records the machine as having been fitted with a sidecar. Also on file are MoT certificates issued in Leicester dated February 1983, May 1984, May 1985 and May 1886; and a current Isle of Man registration certificate.

Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
