Property of a deceased's estate, c.1954 Norton 500cc Dominator 88

Property of a deceased's estate
c.1954 Norton 500cc Dominator 88
Registration no. PLE 266
Frame no. 122 59416 (see text)
Engine no. 59416 122 (see text)

Norton's 500cc twin found a new home in the racing singles' 'Featherbed' duplex frame in November 1951. Designated 'Dominator 88', the newcomer was the first production Norton roadster to feature the lightweight, race-proven chassis. Updated annually, the Dominator by the decade's end had received an alloy cylinder head, full-width hubs, welded rear sub-frame, alternator electrics, coil ignition and - for 1960 - the narrower 'Slimline' Featherbed frame among countless other improvements.

Its late owner is the last listed in the old-style RF.60 continuation logbook; unfortunately, the change of ownership is not dated, though this must have been prior to 1982 when the earliest of the two accompanying V5 documents was issued. It should be noted that the frame/engine numbers' 'K' prefix recorded in the registration documents and HPI Report is not present on the machine and the '4' to the frame number appears to be double stamped – see online frame and engine number images. Believed to be an older restoration, including a retrimmed saddle and repaint, the Norton comes with a quantity of invoices, mostly dating from the period 2010-2016,

The odometer reads 25,831 miles. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent before further use and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over). Prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the condition, completeness, authenticity and compatibility of this lot's component parts, prior to bidding. Additional paperwork includes a current V5C document; a selection of MoT certificates dating from the 1980s to 2013; expired tax discs; a quantity of SORN confirmations; an HPI report; and an SD&P insurance certificate that expired in March 2025.
