Registration no. RL 8718

Engine no. 247922 DMT (see text)

A landmark in the development of the British motorcycle industry, Triumph's Model P made its debut at the 1924 Motor Cycle Show. A straightforward, no‑frills design powered by a side‑valve engine, the new model was priced at just £42 17s 6d—undercutting every other 500cc motorcycle available in the UK at the time.

While the earliest examples were not without their teething troubles, these issues were soon resolved and the Model P went on to become a remarkable commercial success. Production at Triumph's Priory Street works rapidly increased to an extraordinary 1,000 machines per week, and the arrival of the Model P undoubtedly accelerated the demise of many smaller manufacturers.

Manufacture continued until the end of the decade, during which time the Model P formed the basis for several derivatives, including the Models N, Q and QA, the latter being a more sporting variant developed for overseas markets.

Offered from long term ownership and presented in lovely restored condition, 'RL 8718' is believed to be a 'QA' model, and as such is complete with nickel plated chain guard and brake back plates as standard. Offered with an old style V5C, declaring the manufacture date of 1927, and together with an original instruction book and various copies of period publications and other related material.

It should be noted that the V5C records the engine number as E247922 and that while the frame number is listed as 1003458, we are unable to locate the frame number due to heavy paint.

Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
