2004 Ducati 749S

2004 Ducati 749S
Registration no. CX04 AVP
Frame no. *ZDMH500AD4B006149*
Engine no. ZDM749W4B*000675*

Alongside its iconic 916 superbike, Ducati offered a 'junior' version – the 748 – and this policy continued following the introduction of the radically restyled 999 and 749 in 2002/2003. The 749 retained the 58.8mm stroke of the 999 but with a narrower (90mm) bore, while the smaller Testastretta engine incorporated numerous other differences; the chassis, though, was identical to the 999's. Dark and updated 749S models joined the line-up in 2004 together with the limited edition 749R. The new 749S featured an extensively revised and more powerful (110bhp as opposed to 103 horsepower) engine, as well as a Boge front fork.

This 749S was acquired in 2016 by the private vendor; a keen Ducati enthusiast and collector, he intended to restore it to concours condition after his retirement, only for ill heath to scupper the project. According to our vendor, the machine was purchased locally from an excellent Ducati-trained mechanic.

The Ducati is offered from the owner's private collection, all of which were ridden for no more than 2 miles following acquisition and then stored within his house on static display. The current odometer reading is 10,464 miles (at the time of cataloguing/photography). Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require re-commissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's history, originality, authenticity, mechanical condition and completeness (or otherwise) prior to bidding.

Accompanying documents include a current V5C Registration Certificate; some expired MoTs; sundry invoices; DVLA tax reminders and SORN paperwork; and a full set of books, including the service booklet. The machine also comes with a Ducati tool kit and pouch.
