Best known as one of the world's foremost tyre manufacturers, Bridgestone built complete motorcycles between 1958 and the early 1970s, establishing an unrivalled reputation for design innovation and engineering excellence. Bill Smith was the UK's official Bridgestone importer, bringing in around 1,200 models of all types in the late 1960s. Bridgestone built two-stroke motorcycles only and disc-valve induction would become a company hallmark, the first such model being the single-cylinder 90cc Sports of 1964. The '90' had a class-leading maximum output of 8.8bhp at 8,000rpm – good enough for a claimed top speed of 65mph – and weighed in at
around 174lb (dry).
This 'racerised' 90 Sports appears to be in age-related condition (the engine turns over) and is fitted with KYB adjustable rear suspension.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
