"Produced Norton-like 346cc and 496cc ohv single-cylinder machines " - Erwin Tragatsch, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Motorcycles.
There is no denying that this Japanese Monarch is very British in appearance, but it looks more like an assemblage of design elements from various makes, not just one. According to Tragatch, Monarch motorcycles lasted in production for only a handful of years (1955-1962), which explains why there is so little information about the company readily available (at least outside of Japan).
This rare Japanese motorcycle is presented in restored condition (the engine turns over). The odometer reading is 12 kilometres, which may well be the distance covered since the rebuild. It should be noted that the twist-grips are unserviceable. The accompanying key is for the headlamp.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
