Manufactured by the Italian industrial giant Innocenti, the Lambretta scooter gained widespread acceptance in the 1950s, its cleanliness and convenience in particular appealing to those who regarded the true motorcycle with suspicion. Introduced in 1947, the Lambretta A employed an open frame with pressed-steel front section and tubular rear, in which sat a 125cc two-stroke engine. Wheels were 7" in diameter and there was no rear suspension. Produced between 1948 and 1950, the successor B model boasted rear suspension, twist-grip gearchange, and 8" wheels. The A's small wheels had not been liked but in its new form the Lambretta gained mass acceptance and by the end of 1950 Innocenti was producing up to 100 machines per day. Introduced that same year, the C model featured a new frame with single, large-diameter main tube plus many more improvements. The D (un-enclosed) and LD (enclosed) models arrived in 125cc form in 1951 and became available with the 150cc engine three years later, in October 1954. Production of the Lambretta 125cc Model LD ended in November 1956 after over 131,000 had been built.
This LD is fitted with an A Rejna front seat and Aquila pillion seat. Purchased from well-known journalist and collector Giovanni Perrone, the machine currently displays a total of 11,295 kilometres on the odometer and is presented in restored condition (the engine turns over). Offered with copy purchase paperwork.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
